According to a recent announcement from PBS, the network is going to replace the Charlie Rose program with Amanpour for the time being.
The show, which is already airing on CNN International, will now find a place on PBS as well.
Neal Shapiro, President and CEO of WNET, shared in a statement: “Christiane Amanpour is a fearless and uncompromising journalist. We are pleased to welcome her to the PBS system and are gratified to offer this thorough and responsible news program to viewers nationwide.”
However, this is not intended to be a permanent replacement, according to the network, and there is likely more things planned that will be revealed soon.
There are apparently also plans to expand the programming of PBS with a new show related to public affairs, but there is no information about the new production yet, and it is not clear how it is going to be handled.
It is possible that the network might decide to push things in an entirely new direction as opposed to working with someone in-house.
Things have been difficult around the Charlie Rose Show after the recent allegations of sexual misconduct.
Even though Rose has spoken out against some of the accusations, the damage is already done, and the network is moving forward to implement some serious changes to their programming.
Is it possible that Rose might actually return to PBS and resume the original show?
It would not be the strangest development in the entertainment world, but on the other hand, it is also highly unlikely in the current sensitive climate in the industry.
A lot has been coming out into the spotlight with regards to accusations of sexual assaults and misconduct, and it is a hot topic right now, and also one that can easily bring a lot of unwanted negative attention to a network.
