Alexis Sanchez Is Eyeing Manchester United Transfer But Rio Ferdinand Thinks City Would Be Better For Trophies

Rio Ferdinand Alexis Sanchez Manchester United

According to former Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, Arsenal F.C. Chilean superstar forward Alexis Sanchez should not sign for his old club, and should instead look towards Manchester City as a team that can offer him more going down the road.

Ferdinand, 39, seems to believe that Pep Guardiola‘s squad is the club that can give Sanchez the platform he needs to stand on to realize himself, while playing for United would keep him limited and will prevent him from developing into the player he truly could be.

Not many expected Ferdinand to come out in support of City, considering that he spent a considerable amount of time with United himself, but at least it is good to see that he is being objective and he realizes that the player has a better chance elsewhere especially if he plans on winning a lot of trophies.

Ferdinand’s opinion also carries some significant weight with those around him, so it is essential that he presents the situation in an objective manner since he is now working as a pundit.

Sanchez may be underperforming with his current team as well, and this might be one of the reasons that prompted Ferdinand to give his opinion so openly.

There do not seem to be many negative sentiments regarding Ferdinand’s statement though. People apparently realize the situation for the way it is, and there is a general tone of admitting that Sanchez should be seeking to achieve his potential and make more money before his contract ends in June.

Of course, it is important that Sanchez is willing to go down that road himself, and we have not heard much on that front yet. It will be interesting to see where the wind blows next and if he could indeed sign over to City.

Ferdinand tried to clarify his statement on Twitter a few hours ago.

According to the latest reports, Sanchez is likely to go to José Mourinho‘s team that is ready to make more efforts in the financial area.

French Ligue 1 rising star Malcom, who currently plays for Bordeaux, is expected to replace him in the Arsenal squad with a transfer fee estimated at around $62 million.
