The traffic in the city of New York ceased as Samuel L. Jackson was joined by Richard Roundtree and Jessie T. Usher who walked on the streets together on Saturday.

The trio was brought together for the reboot of the iconic movie, Shaft. Mr. Roundtree, 75, was the actor portraying a private detective John Shaft in the original film from 1971.

The film was important because it was the first action hero created for a black audience. It was followed by two sequels — Shaft’s Big Score (1972) and Shaft in Africa that premiered in 1973.

A remake with the versatile Jackson, who played the nephew of John — also detective like him, followed in 2000. Also, now, a new reboot is coming up, continuing the original story with the appearance of Mr. Usher who will be joining as the son of Jackson’s character, John Shaft II.

Usher will portray a young cyber FBI agent who does not have a good relationship with his father, but the two of them have to work together on a case. The idea is to represent the differences between the old and new generations.

The trio was spotted marching together on the streets on February 17, dressed up for the scene in same clothing consisting of gray turtlenecks and trousers and brown trench coats.

All three of them were wearing black sunglasses, but Usher was without gloves in contrast to the other two, who had black leather gloves on their hands.

The original movie from 1971 was a massive success with a profit of over $12 million and a budget of only $1.25 million.

The remake in 2000 with Jackson brought up even more profits with the remarkable earnings of over $107 million.

With the success of Black Panther, this era seems to be the right time to revisit a franchise like Shaft. If the bosses behind the project can hit the right tone, many expect it to do very well at the box office.

Son of Shaft is set to be released in June 2019.
