Janelle Monáe surprised the world with the pleasant news that she is coming up with a new album soon. This will be the fourth album for the musician, who as a little child often compared herself to Dorothy from the book, The Wizard of Oz.
The exact release date of her first major musical project in five years is yet to be announced, and it will be the follow-up to the talented musician’s 2003 album, The Electric Lady, that was well received.
Monáe shared a trailer for her new album titled Dirty Computer on Friday, February 16. The music diva is artistic as always, and her new work refers to topics like passion, riots, love, and some futuristic themes.
While the teaser does not provide us with the general concept of the upcoming album, it shows some very interesting scenes and touches on ideas that are quite common in Monáe’s career.
Part of the promotional video for the inspirational Dirty Computer is planned to be done by the film Black Panther in the form of an exclusive preview.
The 32-year-old Kansas City native has been trying to establish a career as an actress too; she participated in the blockbuster movies Hidden Figures and Moonlight, which grabbed an Academy Award for Best Picture.
The artist also gave a very touching speech at the Grammy Awards show this year. She spoke about issues like discrimination, sexual abuse that affect not only Hollywood but the music business as well, and expressed her support for the “Time’s Up” movement.
Monáe also appealed for united efforts between both sexes for the creation of a better and safer work environment, and equality for women as well.
The new teaser went viral because it features Creed actress Tessa Thompson, and the two ladies are said to be dating.
Monáe has always refused to label her sexuality.
