Matt Damon Apologizes For MeToo Criticism — Some Say He Was Right The First Time

Matt Damon TODAY Show MeToo Movement

Despite the fact that the past year was not the very best for Matt Damon with three of his movies not being received very well, this is far from the most embarrassing experience for the actor recently.

Damon is now expressing his deep regret over the insensitive comments he previously made about the current wave of sexual harassment allegations in Hollywood.

The famous actor was asked by co-host Kathie Lee Gifford on the TODAY show if he had learned a moral lesson after having to face a lot of criticism regarding his remarks on the scandals.

Damon explained that he regretted not listening more when he had to, before stepping in and commenting on the issue of sexual misconduct.

Damon did not forget to mention colleagues like Meryl Streep, Shonda Rhimes, and Natalie Portman and his admiration for their common cause — the Time’s Up initiative.

He went on to explain how a lot of the women who are fighting for the victims of sexual abuse are also his friends and the great respect he has for what they are doing and their cause.

Damon also admitted it may be time for him to close his mouth for a while and listen more to what the people around him have to say.

Some examples of celebrities that were critical of Damon’s remarks are his former girlfriend and costar from the movie Good Will Hunting, Minnie Driver and also Alyssa Milano, who has worked hard to popularize the movement #MeToo hashtag.

Not everyone is applauding Damon for his new position; some commenters think it is unfortunate that divergence of opinion is now considered a sin in some corners of our society.

Most people might disagree with what the 47-year-old actor said initially, but he had the right to share his thoughts without a fear of backlash.
