The recent wave of sexual misconduct accusations and the scandals that have followed them have shaken the celebrity world at its core, and it is still a hot topic.
And while many are supportive of the struggles the affected women have been going through, there have also been some voices of opposition, including from other high-ranking celebrities.
France, in particular, is a country that has seen an interesting response to the whole ordeal, with many people expressing their disapproval of the wave of denouncements.
French movie icon Catherine Deneuve is the latest celebrity from the European country to join those who oppose the scandals, standing behind the claim that people should have the right to engage in their traditional mating rituals, regardless of how society might perceive that.
There have been lots of comments on that development, with some people trying to figure out why France, in particular, seems like such a hotbed for the opposing side. The main suggestion is that the country simply has deeper roots in traditional relationship values.
The statements issued by the group supported by Deneuve also described the current situation as a witch hunt and implied that the whole development is a major threat to sexual freedom and expression.
It is definitely an interesting argument to consider, but it will not be an easy one to promote, especially in the current climate.
It could promote some exciting debate in the near future, so at least we might see the opposing side of the argument presented in a more developed way, as opposed to the accusing statements being thrown around now.
The open letter pushed by Deneuve and some other big names quickly went viral and was heavily criticized for embracing a form of rape culture.
The Belle de Jour star returned a few days later to apologize to the victims of sexual assaults. Deneuve said she never intended to diminish their pain.
