John Kelly Assures Black Republicans That Race Is Not A Factor In White House Hiring

The Trump administration has been under fire in a racial context recently after the 45th U.S. president parted ways with Omarosa Manigault Newman, an African-American woman he has known for a very long time.

After her claims that the White House was an unwelcoming place for minorities and she saw her job as very difficult because of this, there was a lot of discussion about the alleged racism behind the closed doors of the administration.

Trump’s Chief of Staff John Kelly seems determined to dispel these rumors though, and he just recently addressed that situation while speaking to a group of black Republicans.

According to him, every talented young man and woman is welcome to work at the White House as long as they have something to contribute, and their race is irrelevant.

He stressed that skills were the primary factor the administration considers when hiring their applicants.

Mr. Kelly told reporters: “I met with them just for a few minutes and said we are looking for talented young men and women of any age that would be willing to come and serve the country for some period of time. I didn’t say African-Americans, I didn’t say Hispanics.”

He is not the only one trying to salvage the situation either, as White House representatives recently confirmed that their staff is diverse and they are always looking to expand this aspect of the current administration.

Manigault Newman, on the other hand, claimed that her employment at the White House had made her uncomfortable on multiple occasions.

Meanwhile, Trump himself has not made any statements on the alleged racism among his employees, although nobody realistically expects the U.S. president to make an actual comment on such a sensitive topic.

On the other hand, he has shown multiple times that he can quickly brush off controversial situations that implicate him in racism and other inappropriate behaviors, so it is not very likely that we are going to see Trump addressing the recent events anytime soon.

Mr. Trump’s record when it comes to dealing with minorities has been mixed so far — this probably contributed in giving the controversy more leg.
